Boost Fitness announced that it has created a special exercise program for obese youths as part of the Healthy Eating Lifestyle Program (HELP) created by Pediatrics West. Pediatrics West, a private, independent pediatric practice based in Westford, received funding for HELP from Partners Community Healthcare, Inc.’s (PCHI) System Improvement Grant Program.

A 9,000-mile trek in 100 hundred days around the perimeter of United States to raise money to cure ovarian cancer begins today. The cyclist, Craig Broeder, Ph.D., is an exercise physiologist and Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) who is dedicating his ride to help fund research and build awareness about ovarian cancer. Broeder, 54, began his cycling journey today, starting at Lance Armstrong’s bike shop, “Mellow Johnny’s,” in Austin, Texas.

The Children’s Heart Federation (CHF) launches Let’s Get Moving for Heart Children’s Health: a call to action to include children with congenital heart disease in PE at school and to increase their access to sport in the community, at its House of Common’s reception today (14 May) in the presence of Gerry Sutcliffe MP, Minister for Sport and one hundred delegates, including representatives of nine leading sports development organisations.

A new study using advanced cardiac imaging technology indicates that cardiac abnormalities experienced by some marathon runners following competition are temporary, and do not result in damage to the heart muscle. The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Manitoba, marked the first use of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, or CMR, in a post-marathon setting.
